The remarkable story of The Miracle Worker depicts about the amazing relationship of Helen Keller, a deaf, mute and blind young kid and her teacher, Anne Sullivan.

At first, we wondered what the story is all about, until we realized that it slowly touched our hearts as the equally passionate and intelligent Teacher Anne miraculously made the wild and clever Helen an obedient and bright one. It caught our attention as the character of Helen started to become harsh and desolate to the people around her as the effect of her condition, like we were even hurt as if we’re in the story. And when the helpless parents of Helen found Teacher Anne, hope aroused as they had the optimism of changing the personality of the difficult to educate, Helen. Teacher Anne has not even tried to teach before but it is with her strong will and steadfast confidence and faith that Helen will be able to learn her capabilities and potentials.
Teacher Anne’s first attempt in teaching Helen by using sign languages didn’t go the way as she planned. She tried to let Helen feel the signs and letters of the words with her hands, but she did failed. But the eager teacher didn’t lose hope, instead she requested the Kellers to bring Helen with her and live in a single house for two weeks. She learned so many things during this time span like practicing how to eat using spoon and how to spell out some words. However, it seems that two weeks is not enough. She asked for few more days, but Helen’s family refused. Until they went back and had a dinner with the Kellers but Helen is triggered again and there’s Teacher Annie to the rescue, carrying a pitcher and Helen with her arms. They went to the water pump and suddenly, Helen feels the water and she did even possibly spell and utter it. Until the time came that she was able to write her own biography and deliver a speech in public.
This story made me realized that as a future educator, you need to be patient. You need to have courage, compassion, persistence in your profession and give love to those young minds that you are teaching. You need to make it other way around if your student has special needs. That determination is needed to make your students blossom and be able to discover their fullest potentials. Each child is a unique capable individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature. In the end, it is vital to have a vision of a world where people learn to respect, accept and embrace differences between us, as the core of what makes life fascinating.
